Christmas (Natale) season in Venice has officially commenced! Most stores have updated their displays and have added wreaths and other green and red decorations to their shops. The local grocery store where I regularly shop, Conad, had employees dressed in green aprons and Christmas hats! As I walked through the aisles, I heard (American) Christmas music playing! It made me feel warm inside and excited for holiday festivities!
Last week our class went out for one of our last group dinners :-(. We met up at nice ristorante (restaurant) called Osteria alla Staffa. The food was delicious and the portions of this appetizer (vegetable platter) were so large that I had to share some of it with a friend! Our Colgate activity fund covered the cost of the meal, so as long as we stayed within our budget, we could order as many courses as we thought we could handle! I knew I could only handle an appetizer, first course and dessert. T'was a good choice and memorable experience with the group :-).
Pumpkin Ravioli! A much smaller dish, yet super delicious
Chocolate cake with hot, melted chocolate inside and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Can someone pleeease say YUM!
This Sunday, I attended mass at St. Mark's Basilica to listen to the plainchant for music class! Outside of the church stood this large Christmas tree! The branches look kind of sparse in the middle there, and the lights were a little sad-looking, haha but I still took a photo because it was still a special opportunity to take a Christmas photo outside of THE St. Mark's Basilica!
You know how we have self-serve frozen yogurt places in the States? Venice has a few shops like those but with gelato!
A Venetian organization has set up un pattinaggio su ghiaccio (ice-skating) rink in Campo San Polo, near where I live!
Coming up next week: My chorus concert! I got selected for a solo for one of the songs this week! It's for a traditional Zulu prayer, Ukuthula, with powerful lyrics. It'll also be my last week in Venice! :-( (Bittersweet).
Until next week,
Ciao!
